Weekend Food Coordinator

The Children's Lunchbox is seeking a dynamic, professional, customer service oriented Super Hero (aka Weekend Food Coordinator) able to help feed hungry children in the Anchorage area! You get to feed children, interact with teachers and youth development professionals, and basically receive a hero's welcome on a daily basis from adoring fans who draw pictures of you and shower you with thank you cards!

Position Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Program Manager, the position of the Weekend Food Coordinator is responsible for the administration and coordination of the "Just a Little Extra" Weekend Food Program. The "Just a Little Extra" Weekend Food Program works with Anchorage area Title I, bagging prep sites, volunteers and food distributors to provide a bag of weekend food for every student that attends a school enrolled in the "Just a Little Extra" Program for 36-weeks during the school year.

Responsibilities & Duties
Specific Area
Must understand, read, speak and write clearly in English;

Before school starts: coordinates with enrolled schools to obtain teachers' names, classroom enrollment numbers and bin drop-off location and coordinates with bag prepping sites to determine the number of bags each site will prepare and what day they will receive deliveries;

Throughout the school year: Maintain relationship with school administrators to keep accurate attendance record for each school; maintain relationship with bag prep sites to ensure they have proper inventory and supplies to properly prepare bags; coordinate with volunteers to help prepare bags whenever possible; properly accept, track and log in-kind donations; direct volunteers and other TCL staff during program delivery; track and record number of bags delivered on the last day of the school week and bags picked up on Monday; and when possible, work with program site school nurses to stack small in-school food pantries for families that need more than the "Just a Little Extra" Program provides.

During Summer:
Work with TCL Kitchen Coordinators to prep and deliver summer meals and if possible, coordinate with summer food sites to provide a small on-site food pantry; and other duties as assigned.


Skills & Abilities Required:
Must understand, read, speak and write clearly in English;
Must have basic mathematic skills;
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction;
Supports The Children's Lunchbox mission;
Demonstrates the ability to maintain a high degree of professional conduct at all times;
Ability to work with a diverse population including, but not limited to: underprivileged adults and children;
Have (or be able to provide within four weeks of hire date) ServSafe certification. Alaska preferred;
Demonstrates knowledge of safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage;
Demonstrates ability to count, track and record meal information as required;
Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of professional conduct at all times;
Demonstrates ability to take directions;
Ability to prioritize, problem solve;
Must pass criminal background check;
Must have a valid Alaska State Driver's License; and
Must provide proof of good driving record.

Must be a productive worker that is reliable and punctual; and
Must be able to work safely without endangering self or others.

Physical demands:
Must be able to lift 25 - 50 pounds from the ground up;
Must be able to climb stairs;
Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions (cold, rain, and wind), slippery floors, steam, hot water temperatures and surfaces.
Use proper lifting techniques;
Must be able to stand for long periods of time without needing assistance; and
Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use hand and kitchen tools, office supplies, paint, or lift, etc..

Work environment: Bean's Café, Inc./The Children's Lunchbox has various sites throughout Anchorage.
Position is full time, with health benefits, personal time off, and paid holidays.
